Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins

Kaweah24

The Colby Basin trail heads for timber and our rest-stop. To the right above where the trees end is the grassy ramp where I had a perch and unobstructed view of the Kern-Kaweah Canyon.

Colby Basin

Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins via Colby Pass, September, 2000.

Nearly strait as an arrow the trail headed for the Kern-Kaweah canyon across the dry grassy expanse. Near the lip of the canyon and before entering the trees we stopped for a short rest and exploration. I dearly wanted a picture looking down the Kern-Kaweah canyon, and a small ridge to my right looked like it would provide me with a good view of the canyon above the trees. Cross-country thereabouts was excessively easy and I had no trouble mounting the small ridge with the aide of grassy natural pathways and ramps.

On the way to my lofty perch above the Kern-Kaweah canyon I had this excellent view of Milestone Mountain and the Milestone Pass cross-country route. The pass looks fairly easy.

As expected I had a fantastic view of the entire Kern-Kaweah river canyon. It was sure worth the extra expenditure of energy.
