A Backpack Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets
An unnamed 10,741 foot peak soars over Anona Lake and its glacier. Note the trees growing on the high slopes above the glacier. As you can see there are plenty of small spindly Mountain Hemlocks.
A Lake Glacier
A Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets, August/September 2006We strolled around the shore, and there seemed plenty of potential primative camp spots and one or two obviously used ones. Check the north-west corner for a packer site I think must be there if you visit.
Of great interest to me is the fact there is a glacier at this lake, even if it is in the last stages of melting to nothing. Like all of the other glaciers in the Sierra, there was a lot more of it 100 years ago. Just more evidence of what global warming is doing to glaciers everywhere. I just wish I had time to camp there and check out the glacier and other features.Grass covered shore, calm reflective waters, a glacier, high sheer walls, Mountain Hemlock, Lodgepole Pines, warm sun, clear skies: what more can you ask for?
