ABOVE: The pass where this picture was taken is at about 11,000 feet, and the unnamed lake below is only another 100 feet or so below. The trees which shelter several large lakes of upper Blue Canyon can be seen far below.
Pass into Blue Canyon
Mantle Pass turns out to be a Class 1 stroll, and perhaps one of the easiest ways into Blue Canyon. There is a sandy gully from one side of the pass to the other. The picture was taken from near the heigh point of the pass, and the view from there is just wonderful. The cross-country looks great from here and also on the map, and it looks like it would be easy to get into upper Blue Canyon. Also, the cross-country route into the Tunemah Lake drainage can be clearly seen. Don't be fooled by the shadow. I am ready to try out all these cross-country routes. Lets go!
