The North Fork Kings River
The rocky trail plunges sharply down towards the Kings River, and near BM 8029 you can walk down stream to some of the best campsites in the valley, situated above a waterfall and pool. If you do not plan to stay, at least take a break to admire the falls, cascades, the wide open granite and the pool that is ideal for swimming by midseason. If you do stay the night for your first night on the trail, you can marvel at the fact you are camping at an altitude that is lower than the trailhead where you started: a rare thing for a first day of hiking in the Sierra.
