The Ottoway Lakes Loop
When the river settles down, calm stretches and deep pools rule.
Merced River Water Slide
The Ottoway Lakes Loop, September 2004 This stretch below Merced Lake is one of the best of the trail, in particular during high water. The river bed is almost all granite and the trail follows the river presenting numerous places to stop and marvel at the swift ribbon of the Merced River. The water music is very fine and during high summer when the water is low, it would present a lot of temptation to stop for a swim and slide. There is plenty of charm to be had along the Merced River. Ahead, Echo Valley.
