Big Five / Little Five Lakes Loop

The hike up canyon was an amazingly easy one, and very pleasant. In some places the surroundings were excellent in view and form. Here the trail follows Lost Canyon Creek, but the trail was not shy about veering away from the creek. The stunted trees in this picture say I was nearing treeline.

Big 5, Little 5 Lakes Loop and Sawtooth Pass, August 4th to 7th, 2000.

At another spot the trail climbed past small falls and cascades. There were numerous level camping opportunities along the way with good access to water that did not get near the use of the ones near bear-boxes. Some were quite ideal. The trail flirted with the main stream, one place veering near the brink of the stream, other places veering far away to make its way through some complex terrain.
