Big Five / Little Five Lakes Loop
In the glare of the early morning sun, the shadows seem to point the way to Sawtooth Pass. This was the view from camp.
Another Golden Morning
Big 5, Little 5 Lakes Loop and Sawtooth Pass, August 4th to 7th, 2000.
August 7th, 2000, Day 4.
This was to be long day of hiking and driving. It was also to be entertaining, educational, annoying, thrilling, awe-inspiring and in short, all of the things that make travel in the Sierra so great.
It always seems I hardly ever camp on the eastern slopes in the Sierra. There always seems to be a canyon wall, trees or something in the way of sunrise, but that was not the case in Lost Canyon. I awoke early and made breakfast in low level streaming golden alpen-glow light of morning. The early morning light has a more golden color than the red hued light of evening. This is probably due to the lack of pollutants in the air to the east. I used the available sunny patches on the ground to lay out my bivy-tent, tarp and bag to dry. The unusual humid conditions tended to collect condensation in my shelter.
