A Solo Hike Along the Silver Divide
Yup, that there is Grassy Lake. This was as close as I got to it. Probably a mistake.
Grassy Lake and Meadow
Silver Divide Trip from Edison Lake Trailhead, August 2001
Day 3, Sunday, 2 SEPT, 2001 I awoke to another beautiful sunny Sierra morning. I immediately took some pictures and noted there was a bit of a breeze, unusual for the morning. I took my time eating and packing because I was not anxious to leave such a lovely lake and camp. Too soon, I was ready to leave, and reluctantly I turned my feet towards the trail after one last look up the lake.
A sorta helpful sign. At this point, a 7.5 map is more useful. The way goes to the left of the granite hill seen here.
The walk back to the main trail was a pleasant stroll in the high-country open forest. The lake was at about 9500 feet and the walk back to the trail lost little altitude.
I hit the trail junction and turned left towards Grassy Lake. The trail began to lose some altitude moderately, but before long it hit the valley bottom, a very large level area mostly covered by a huge grass covered meadow perhaps a mile long. Horse-packers must love this area. As the trail leveled out, I saw an unmarked spur trail going to my left towards Peter Panda Lake, which I took. The trail led to a very large level camp area with multiple fire rings that skirted a meadow to my left. I continued through the unoccupied camp where the trail picked up again and headed north to the massive meadow. I did not know it but there was a crossing over the creek to my left that was the trail I needed to find.
