A Solo Hike Along the Silver Divide
Lake 10,150, a true alpine lake. Graveyard Lakes Pass can be seen on the right, or part of it anyway.
A Shallow Alpine Lake
Silver Divide Trip from Edison Lake Trailhead, August 2001
I hiked ahead to the meadow and turned off to check out the fair sized lake at 10,150 feet. Up above I saw Graveyard Lakes Pass, which looked fairly easy on this side. The lake was of the shallow alpine variety, and did not look much visited. Perhaps there was secluded camping in the low trees on the right. This was nice high Sierra landscape. I probably should have explored more here.Instead, I headed back to the trail and began to make my way down to Peter Panda Lake.
Camping maybe possible on the right, but why bother when there is Peter Panda Lake and Olive Lake? Peak 11,225 mid-picture.
This trail section between the unnamed lake and Peter Panda Lake was the worst trail of the whole trip. It was eroded, steep, threaded, and potentially dangerous in certain conditions (like rain). Going down I had to be very careful, but going up would be much easier. Maybe there was other better ways to the north. I did not check it out. Once past the steep stuff, the trail was merely poor for a bit before it went back to being Sierra normal.
