Sphinx Lakes in Kings Canyon

A ridge of the Sphinx Crest provides one end of the bowl of the lowest Sphinx Lake. The green area beyond the lake is the swamped end of the lake: bayou country. Camping is far to the right.

A Bowl Full of Lake

Lake 9610, the lowest Sphinx Lake, is one of the most beautiful lakes you will ever see. It would be just about the top of the list if it were not for too many fire-rings and too many tent sites. This place must be used as a major base-camp for climbing expeditions. Lots of level tent spots, but not all that beat-out. It must get visited in spurts, but the spurts must be heavy use.
