Sphinx Lakes in Kings Canyon

The upper basin glows in the light of Alpenglow. I know from a later trip this area stays in sunlight longer that most of the surrounding area.

Alpenglow Before the Full Moon

To the left (east side) is talus and eventually a route across and through a near sheer headwall. Turning the lake on the left is a fair trail around the lake, then a scramble over rock, talus hopping to a small notch, and then another forest climb to another small lake. This route would not be very good for anyone carrying a heavy pack.
