Brewer Basin in Kings Canyon

From the highest large Sphinx Lake you can look up to see Sphinx Pass (seen as the bottom of the large "V" of the sky-line to the left), and see how obvious the route is. From the starting point next to the lake above, it is no more than a strenuous walk on the left upward veering towards the small lake hidden above.

Sphinx Pass

21 Sept., Day 3, Sphinx Creek to Brewer Basin
The day dawned bright and clear, as I know it would. Dave got up in the middle of the night to "walk the dog", and I could see the stars burning fiercely down on us in the clear night air. With two strenuous days behind us (although the previous day was a short day allowing more recovery time), this day would prove to be one of the hardest. Once we were mounted up, we headed west along the shore mostly on the fishermen's trail, turning the western large lake (10546) on the right (west) side and headed to the highest large Sphinx Lake (10,962) below Sphinx Pass. We turned this rather nondescript lake on the left (north side) heading upward still on good ground, now with the pass in sight.
