Brewer Basin in Kings Canyon
From the top of Sphinx Pass we had a grand view of the beautiful and historic Mt. Brewer.
On Top of Sphinx Pass
In retrospect, the pass was fairly easy technically, but also fairly long and strenuous.
At this point we were looking for our next camp. We had planned to head for Longly Pass, but that was now out of the question. We were dog-tired.At the top of the pass looking North! From here you can see how straight-forward this hike is. You can see the snow I used to get up to the pass, and behind that the small highest Sphinx Lake. Beyond you can see the Sphinx Crest, and beyond that Kings Canyon and the Monarch Divide. Remember the camera was pointed downward to take this shot.
Getting down was the next order of business, and we spent some time examining the possibilities. It was steep there, with a series of ramps and shelves below us (thankfully no more talus).
