Brewer Basin in Kings Canyon
Looking up at the summit from the shoulder of Mt. Brewer. After a short distance from the point where this was shot, you are among large stable talus. Dave came down the middle depression/gully.
Coming Down
The trip down the mountain flank was a bit exciting, illustrating just how steep the mountain is. Eventually the devious route found me on less demanding terrain and finally back to our packs. After a much-needed drink, I laid back on a reclining sun warmed rock and tried to spot Dave. Soon I did see him, a white spot among the granite gray, well far to the left of where he went up the exposed notch. I knew he was determined to avoid the scary notch and find a more suitable spot to descend, which he found. I wish I had known about that descent route because I may have been able to use it to summit. Dave slowly made his way down the talus filled flank, in something that looked like a broad gully. He finally arrived looking a bit harried and pale, like someone who had just had a brush with real danger, but pleased with his adventure.
