Mt. Whitney From Cottonwood Lakes

Mt. Guyot and the ridge to be mounted awaits ahead. The area featured many meadows like this one.

Meadows and Forests

Mt. Whitney Trip from Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead. June 2000.

After the lake, the trail began to wind downward into the viewless forest. In typical glaciated fashion, the landscape in turns was fairly level for a distance, then moderately steep. The level sections would occasionally feature small to large grassy expanses of convoluted or fairly level meadow, which would allow a view of the only major feature in sight, Mt. Guyot.

Another meadow area, this time keeping Rock Creek company.

The trail at first followed Rock Creek then forded Rock Creek on logs. The trail then left Rock Creek behind to meander through forest to meet a trail junction and then skirt large meadows.
