Mt. Whitney From Cottonwood Lakes
Could this be another Shorty Lovelace cabin? The dimensions seem right.
...And Into the Woods
Mt. Whitney Trip from Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead. June 2000.
Once on the trail it was cake. It was now just a walk in the park past huge meadows and tall forests. I have never seen so many large meadows in one day.One of the typical meadows along our route and trail.
We were still high enough to see that we were just below timberline. Now we settled down to a trail slog, marching along in quiet determination. At one point the trail crossed yet another large grassy meadow before diving into forest.
Typical trail along the unmarked and unmapped trail. It is obviously used by packers. Guess how I knew.
The forest got thicker and thicker the lower we traveled and finally we met a junction on the mapped trail. We turned right and crossed the South Fork creek and the next mile or so was an undulating rollercoaster that actually required us to climb some in places. Finally we ended up at the middle parking lot where we turned right and dropped down into the lower parking lot to conclude our trip.
