Woods Creek and Lakes

Woods Creek and Lakes

Looking NE up-trail just below Window Peak Canyon.

Window Peak Canyon

Woods Creek and Lakes, SEKI, Spring 2005

Another thing I was there to do was check out Window Peak Canyon. The reason is not only the canyon and large Window Peak Lake, but the pass up-canyon into Arrow Peak Basin. The pass is manageable I am told, as long as you like lots and lots of talus. The Window Lake area is of recent note due to some clues found there concerning the missing Ranger. I think the area would be worth a visit.

Woods Creek and Lakes

Looking up to the entrance to Window Peak Canyon, with Window Peak peeking over the horizon on the right.   Mid-picture is the back side of Castle Domes. As you can see, the cross-country into Window Canyon is not too bad.

The route into Window Peak Canyon did not seem particularly hard. I could see myself zig-zagging my way up the steeper sections, just one long slog all the way to Window Peak Lake. I have other pictures from other trips that confirm the rather open nature of the hike all the way to the lake. Definitely worth a visit.

Woods Creek and Lakes

Looking down-canyon and down Woods Creek towards "King Col Canyon" and Woods Creek Junction. The Window Canyon entrance slope is the gray material on the right.

The "open nature" of Window canyon is worth some comment. The rocky lower slope into the canyon was composer of a gray material, probably volcanic in nature, probably porous. What I saw of it did not seem hard to navigate. Junipers seem to love it.
