The Dash Back
Woods Creek and Lakes, SEKI, Spring 2005I am not going to bore you with the details of the hike back to the trailhead. It was pretty routine, mostly. The weather never did develop into anything. If there was any rain, it was only a drop or two then cleared up. The next day would be clear and warm.
A nice section of trail looking towards Rae Lakes on the left. At least the grass here does not think it is still spring.
The only other event of note was that at the Upper Paradise crossing of the South Fork Kings River, to my disgust and surprise, I slipped and fell in the log jam and bruised my shoulder. It was the first time I wore this one particular hiking shirt since I broke my leg in the Murro Blanco, not 2 miles away! I am normally not superstitious, but I had to take it out on something, so I decided the shirt was unlucky and I will never wear it again! Bah! I was being so very careful, determined not to do anything stupid or fall, placing each step carefully and deliberately, but one step-log had some foliage beneath which turned the step slick. One of my poles went flying and I had to have Dave help me find it. I had no trouble after that, but it really torked me off! I hate when things happen despite my anticipation and best efforts. Let this be a warning to never take anything for granted and expect the expected unexpected, if you know what I mean. Grrrr....
Dave on the trail above the Woods Creek Crossing. This would be my last trip with Dave before his medical problems. He may be able to get back to some light hiking this year. We will see. Good luck Dave.
This was a good and memorable hike (for an out and back) with some great views and camps. Check it out yourself!
Happy Trails.
