Circle the Cirque Crest
It is an easy hike over to an overlook of the Volcano Lakes. The trick is to hit the right spot to find the best view of the lakes, which is a highpoint of a small ridge.
Volcano Lakes

After a short break to hike over to see Volcano Lakes and scope the views, we headed down the north side of the pass. I was looking forward to this part of the hike because of the many meadows, lakes and camps along the way, with many cross-country routes to nearby lakes. I hope to see the area again some day. It is very popular with horse-packers so there were a good number of people in the area. This all changed as we left humanity behind and finally descended to Doughterty Creek. We would only see one other person, who we were expecting, until we got to the John Muir Trail near Taboose Pass.
