This is an excellent place for a layover for a day or so, but don't expect to have the place all to yourself. The pass is not far away and Bearpaw Meadow and Hamilton Lakes are not far beyond that and this canyon is a favorite destination for various organizations: so if you find yourself alone, count yourself lucky, even though solitude is easy to find.

The stream has bearly left a mark on its granite riverbed. This is looking down Deadman Canyon near the head of the canyon

There is plenty of things to do: the views up and down the canyon are excellent, the open unjointed granite slopes make for pleasant walking and sunbathing, the pools and cascades are great for refreshing dips, the forest with the winding placid waters beneath will tempt the fishermen and explorers and those who wish to just sit and soak up the atmosphere will not be disappointed. One of the more outstanding activities available is the short trip to Big Bird Lake in Big Bird Circue. Just travel southwest from camp over granite, follow the outlet stream to the lake and don't forget your fishing pole. Other cross-country opportunities exist.
