Deadman Canyon Loop
Yes, the spring early morning light is perfect. So is this view. What more could you ask of the Sierra?
Ranger Lake
Deadman Canyon Loop - By D.W.Donehoo (All rights reserved)
Several good camp spots are along the north shore, but in early season, misquotes will be more of a problem than at Ranger Lake. Back on the main trail, you will soon have to do a little elevation loss and gaining to get to Ranger Lake (at 9193 feet), annoying if at this point you are really tired. There used to be camp sites along the south shore, but the site was closed for restoration last time I was there. Conditions and legal sites may change from year to year in efforts to restore this high impact area. There are numerous campsites on the east shore and a bear box and more secluded sites further along the shore and at the northwest corner of the lake. A Ranger lives nearby in the summer, so be prepared to show your permit.
