Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins

This is looking up the Picket Creek Drainage from near what I call "Picket-Kaweah Col". Back up there NE of Lawson Peak is what I call "Picket Col", a cross-country route to the Kern-Kaweah River.

Much of the area was dominated by white granite, but we were obviously approaching a volcanic contact zone. Although the area was fairly well wooded, we were obviously reaching tree line because around us the upper slopes were bare. After skirting another lake we began hiking up through some red meta-volcanic joints in park-like surroundings leading to our destination col.

Another look up the Picket Creek drainage. It was fun dancing over the water from rock to rock.
