Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins
For every picture I have shown you, there is four or more you never see. About 60 pictures I prepared for this story did not make it in (and I took many more). I wish I could show you all the pictures I have of Picket Lake, for example. Mid horizon glaring whitely is Mt. Whitney.
Rendezvous at Picket Lake
Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins via Colby Pass, September, 2000.
Eventually I made it back to "Picket Lake" and sat down to absorb the view as much as possible. I noted a line of small rocks that outlined an obvious tent site. Lucky people. I explored a bit, following the outlet down a ways, as it became a noisy cascade falling into the canyon below. There did not seem a good place to cross the stream, but I am sure it was possible.Above "Picket Lake" we looked back towards Kaweah Basin at Mt. Kaweah above "Picket Col".
After Dave showed up we continued our rest and observations, then reluctantly put our gear back on and departed the lake. I really loved that place.
