Seville Lake

Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins via Colby Pass, September, 2000.

Day 8:

Another clear and sunny morning dawned with enough early sunlight to dry out our groundsheets and shelters. We flew through breakfast and our morning chores and hit the trail as soon as our gear was dry. At such low altitudes where we presently were, it is best to get down the trail as soon as possible early in the morning.

Note: I did not know it then, but up the trail a ways and up a side stream was the headquarters of Shorty Lovelace. No structures remain, but I am sure there is still physical evidence of his stay. I will find out some day.

Seville Lake.

We decide to head for Seville Lake because it was my thought it would be much easier going back via the route that neared that lake. And the lake was a near level mile from its nearest junction so the lake begged for a visit. As it turned out, the way was indeed much easier and we arrived at a beautiful glade near the junction near the lake in short order. We had a quick snack than trotted down the trail to the lake. It was a quick journey and we sunned ourselves and filtered water on the lakeshore. I had visited this lake early season a year back so I already knew that Seville Lake was a worthwhile lake to visit with picturesque white granite cliffs reflected in the lakes calm waters.

This lake is a well used high impact lake as are all lakes a days march from the trailhead, with well over a dozen campsites crowded around the lake. This lake is also a very pretty one and should be visited if it is along your line of march. If you must stay there, I suggest you visit it during the week or off-season. The cross-country opportunities are many in that area, and the nearby Lost Lake offers just as much opportunity and is probably much less crowded and therefore recommended for a stay over Seville Lake.
