Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins
From the highpoint on the route to Rowell Meadow and down the ridge a ways I could look back at the Seville Lake area towards Mt. Silliman and Twin Peaks.
Back To Rowell Meadow
Kern-Kaweah and Kaweah Basins via Colby Pass, September, 2000.
We enjoyed our time and lunch at the lake and stayed a good while before departing. We tried to find the alternate trail directly from the lake as seen on the map, but that trail does not seem to exist any more. So we gave up the search and headed back down to the junction. The Rowell Meadow and Seville Lake Junction.
We turned left at the junction and began our climb with mountain goat Dave in the lead. I settled down to an easy pace because I knew that trail. It starts gradual but the further it goes the steeper it gets until near the top amid several false summits it is so steep it seems straight up hill. After a serious grunt, the summit came abruptly into view. I would have liked to stop and hiked down the ridge to the views I knew were up there, but Dave had gone ahead and I felt compelled to catch up.

From the trail summit it is mostly downhill or level all the way to Rowell Meadow, and it was there I caught up with Dave, closing the loop on the trip for the last time. Thereafter it was a moderate walk back to the trailhead and the promise of showers and food.
It had been a good trip.
