A Backpack to the Remote Lyell Fork of the Merced River

An Afternoon at Babcock Lake
A Trail and Cross-Country Route to the Lyell Fork, July 2007
There was not much to do after we were set up and it was still near noon. Time to whip out our books, sit in our chairs and enjoy the afternoon. But you cannot sit all the time. When I was there in 05, I explored the extent of the meadow, which continues on up canyon, but with my sore toe, I kept my exploration walks to the north shore of the lake. It was a very nice day with the usual afternoon breezes. Most of the time I was in camp trying to stay in shade. Mosquitoes were not a problem, and the few curious ones met a swift end.

Soon enough afternoon became evening and dinnertime, after which we enjoyed the calm evening until it was time to head for our shelters.
