A Backpack Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets
Next to "The Watchtower" was a broad gully, and I was resigning myself to another lung-heaving slog up a steep slope to get to Deadhorse Lake. I headed back to our packs.Another look at "The Watchtower" and the wide gully to Deadhorse Lake (but not the best way to get there).
Deadhorse Routes
A Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets, August/September 2006Looking at the talus slope at the entrance to Deadhorse Lake, I figured I could guess how the lake got its name and how the horse got dead. Choosing the wrong way to the lake would not help the horse.
This part of the ridge of Deadhorse Pass, which is off to the left out of sight here.
Could this be the way to Deadhorse Lake? Well, actually, it is ONE way, but not the BEST way. It looks very alpine back up there... Dave had better news: he had found the way to Deadhorse Lake, an easy way. We left our packs and followed the north bank of the outlet stream.
