A Backpack Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets

Minarets Trip

Could any landscaper do a better job? This is the outlet stream from Deadhorse Lake, and to the key to getting to the lake. On the right edge on the lawn you can just make out the log where we dropped our packs to explore.

Deadhorse Meadow

A Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets, August/September 2006

After a short walk down a grass ramp we were on the lawn of Deadhorse Meadow. A short walk brought us to the crystal waters of the meadow stream, where we found a step-over to the other side. We strolled over the lawn looking at the impressive views surrounding us, and made out way to some rocks and trees where the stream spilled out onto the meadow in a splashy cascade of water music.

Deadhorse Pass. An easy walk down (or up) a grass ramp. (Looking SSE).

We followed the lawn a bit further beyond the cascade and pool to a fallen log crossing the lawn that made an ideal spot to drop our packs and have a look around. We needed to find the way to Deadhorse Lake.

Minatets Trip

Near where we dropped out pack was another small pretty pond. You can find it on the 7.5 map. Later we would be going to the left of this pond on grass slopes. This is looking east.

Dave followed the stream while I strolled around taking pictures and checked out other routes.
