A Solo Hike Along the Silver Divide
Standing at the top of what I called "The Plunge", which is what the trail does, I looked right down on Papoose Lake. The lit up mound below the peak in shadow on the right is Silver Pass, or at least the illuminated high point is the pass. Below the pass you can just make out Chief Lake.
Standing on the Edge
Silver Divide Trip from Edison Lake Trailhead, August 2001
Papoose Lake was directly below me with Chief Lake just visible on my right. Well to my left I could see part of Lake of the Lone Indian. Who comes up with these names anyway?Over yonder is Lake of the Lone Indian. Yee HA! ....Sorry. Lots of peaks over there, but not a lot of names to go with them. A little right of center you can see the area above Tully Hole, a nice garden spot.
Below I could see the trail and junction, with one spur marching up a slope away from me to link up with the JMT/PCT trail. I would see that trail later. Silver Pass, a pass I crossed many years ago but well remembered, was in sight despite the confusion of loss of dept of field due to my present distance from the pass. I would be visiting that pass soon, but not today. In all, it was a very interesting area, and a worthwhile place for the JMT/PCT to pass through.
