A Solo Hike Along the Silver Divide

Silver Divide Trip

This is why you get up early in the Sierra. If you sleep in, you miss views like this. Calm Mott Lake in the early morning.

A Mott Lake Morning

Silver Divide Trip from Edison Lake Trailhead, August-September 2001

Day 7, Thursday, 6 SEPT, 01

This would be a brutal day of hiking. How bad I would only find out later. Almost all of the rest of the way back would be trail I had hiked before, and the new-to-me trail would not be all that.

The view over the lake was phenomenal, as expected, and the picture above is proof. Up there above Rosy Finch Lake is the Roper Sierra High Route, parts of which I have done, and parts of which I want to do, and that is one of them. I longed to go up there and walk the route.

After breakfast I quickly packed, and after a few parting pictures and a last loving gaze over the lake, it was time to go. It was sad to go, for every step would carry me lower, and I would not gain back the altitude for the rest of the trip.
