A Solo Hike Along the Silver Divide

Silver Divide Trip

Morning light on the high meadow. Below that dark shadow on the granite wall about mid picture is where the trail is coming down from the overlook. At this point I am just a little bit higher than the overlook.

Going Down-Canyon

Silver Divide Trip from Edison Lake Trailhead, August-September 2001

Well, going down was much easier than coming up, at least on the body. It did not take long to get to the open meadow and enjoy it in the early morning light. So far, no clouds, and in any case, every day after the rain of a few days ago was a clearer day, and it looked like conditions would be perfect just in time for me to leave. Still, for this trip, I had little to complain about.

Silver Divide Trip

The creek slides over slabs roughly beneath my camp of two nights ago. Yes, up there to the left a good ways is the overlook of "Upper Pocket Meadow". Cross-country on the other side still looks good. This area was finely polished by glaciers.

Actually I was greatly enjoying the stroll down canyon, and always taking in all that I could as I went. My pack was as light as it ever was going to be with most all of the food gone. So I was fairly swinging along, and way too soon I hit the JMT/PCT super-highway.
