A Walk on the Tablelands
Just a few miles away are deep forests, then dry foothills, then dryer desert. Hard to believe. Here is a good idea of where the Tablelands got its name. Still no moose in sight, alas.
Sierra Tundra
The whole area takes on a different feel and beauty that is unlike the area around Moose Lake with its lawns accented with jumbles and slabs of granite. While the upper reaches also has vast lawns and flower gardens, it also has pockets of meadows, unmapped ponds, large stretches of sandy flats, meandering brooks and small cascades, small hills and stretches of white glacier smoothed granite decorated with erratics.
