The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne and Falls
The first significant falls/cascade, here looking towards the Double Rock canyon.
First Falls
The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne and Falls, June 2004The trail ends it level stretch by curving around southeast to climb alongside the first fall/cascade of the day. It looked impressive enough to joke with Dave by saying I thought it was one of the first named falls. He just gave me a strange look. Nobody gets me.
Rushing water usually means it is time to climb. Looking up towards the many un-named side canyons.
Still, the fall was a nice one, sliding over solid granite into a large green pool of turbulent water. Late season it may be a great place to sunbathe and use the fall as a waterslide.
Above the falls the river continued its frothy tumble down the canyon. The trail fishhooks around to head northeast alongside the cascades, slides and pools that invite longer stays to explore the river.
