The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne and Falls

Don't be surprised if the end of this bridge is flooded early season, forcing a wet crossing on the bridge.

Last Bridge

The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne and Falls, June 2004

After a short detour away from the river, the trail swings back to cross the last Tuolumne River bridge of the trip. There is a short concrete causeway leading to the bridge, and the first time I crossed this bridge the causeway was flooded due to the high water. This time it was only a bit wet and we were able to get across without taking our boots off.

This bridge was technically two bridges that connected in the center at an island. It is worthwhile to take your time crossing to take in the views up and down the river and admire the rushing clear water beneath your feet. The bridge island interrupts the river flow causing the river to churn and froth around this obstacle.

The high dome on the right is Point 9134, which is above McGee Lake. The peak on the far left is Tuolumne Peak. East of the footbridge there is a climb up on part of Point 8924 where this view awaits the trail warrior.

After the bridge, the trail enters a charming pocket forest that may harbor wet trail and patches of snow early season. A little beyond the forest the trail mounts up some granite stairs to the long bare granite shoulder of Point 8924, an nice place to stop and rest to take in the wide open views up and down the river.

Beyond the above rest stop, the trail is just a long pleasant walk along the river below Point 8924.
