The trail seemed to find reasons to climb steeply from time to time between level sections, and being anxious to be moving on up, I found the trail between our camp and the upper tarns to be annoying. Guitar Lake is a true high country lake devoid of trees with a good section of meadow attached to it where water seeped and flowed in from above. An old trail goes through the marshy swamp, but the new aligned trail sweeps levelly around it without loss of altitude. In another up and down section a fair sized stream is reached where I filled my water bottles.
