Mt. Whitney From Cottonwood Lakes

Finally back to timberline at Timberline Lake. Life on the moonscape at last.

Timberline

Mt. Whitney Trip from Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead. June 2000.

Another rocky sandy area allowed me to tour off the trail a good ways in search of that elusive perfect picture in the direction of the Great Western Divide. Eventually my meandering course brought me by the shores of Timberline Lake and other meadows, and sitting here writing I have to wonder why I did not pause longer at the lake and meadows to enjoy the scenery. Perhaps I was looking forward to the comforts of camp and I wanted to get rested up for the next day of hiking, I don't know. These are fleeting moments I may never again duplicate.
