Mt. Whitney From Cottonwood Lakes
The meadow has lost its coat of frost from the morning cold.
A Goal Obtained At Last
Mt. Whitney Trip from Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead. June 2000.
Eventually I did pull into camp and plopped down into my chair and propped my feet up. Piece of cake. Life was good. It was around 4:30 PM, plenty of time to snack, clean up, rinse out some clothes, snooze, and generally concentrate on not doing much of anything. Eventually it was time to fire up the stove and watch a repeat alpen-glow performance of the previous night. I was not looking forward to the hike back to Soldier Lakes because it was mostly a long viewless trail slog, and packing up camp was no fun either. The pleasant evening passed, and as soon as it was dark I was in my sack and asleep. Quite a day I would say.
