Woods Creek and Lakes

Woods Creek and Lakes

This is the Woods Lakes trail junction area, and you can see some trail right of center picture. Left of center horizon, you can at last see Mt. Clarence King.

Woods Lakes Trail Junction

Woods Creek and Lakes, SEKI, Spring 2005

After a short climb the trail flattened out in a winter beaten white granite platform that seemed very alpine. After a short walk along this section of the JMT/PCT highway, we reached the trail junction for Woods Lakes. There was lots of lovely level white granite to set packs on and to take a break, which we did.

That's me fetching water from the Twin Lakes fork of Woods Creek, surrounded by alpine beauty.

It was time to recharge the water bottles and have a snack, so we wandered over to the Twin Lakes fork of Woods Creek. In contrast to the open granite of the junction, the creek was a well shaded lush alpine garden. Flowers were everywhere, frantically growing it seemed, to get their business done before the winter again reclaimed the high places.

On the trail near the crossing of the Twin Lakes fork of Woods Creek, looking towards Woods Lakes basin. Notice the shooting stars in the grass.

After our relaxing break taxing the views, we mounted up again and headed to Woods Lakes, at last on new ground for us. The trail dips down a ways (a mosquito haven) then sharply climbs for a short stretch before leveling out. The rest of the ways would feature only gradual climbs and level stretches.
