Woods Creek and Lakes
Another look at peak 3764 m. To the right of center picture you can see some vertical water streaked walls the are part of a lake bowl: the southeast corner large lake (10547 feet). I took this shot from nearly the center of Woods Lake Basin
After the Storm
Woods Creek and Lakes, SEKI, Spring 2005With the weather breaking up, it was time to take a stroll around to see the sights. In hindsight, I should have went further afield than I did, and if I had a layover day I would have done some extensive exploring. After a long hike (~7 miles and nearly 3000 feet of gain) I was content to walk around the lake and in the basin.
The colorful Sierra Crest.
It was surprising how fast the weather cleared out, as if the clouds had wrung themselves out dry. And everything was pretty near bone dry by the time I was ready to head out from camp.
Similar to a previous picture, but it gives you a better idea of how garden-like the Woods Lakes area is. Note the typical windblown trees of treeline, Whitebarks and Foxtails. Again, Mt. Baxter is peeking over center horizon over part of the largest Woods Lake.
