Circle the Cirque Crest

While the dark clouds raced overhead, the sun sneaked in underneath the clouds to give us the "divine manifestation"
(per John Muir) of the alpen-glow. The clouds were an omen of things to come.

Horseshoe Lakes: Dusk

It seemed it was my turn to get my second wind and Dave's turn to deal with fatigue and blisters like I did the day before. The rough trail gradually lost a scant amount of altitude then climbed a small ridge to the trail junction to Horseshoe Lakes. The trail turned out to be a good one, still of the true wilderness variety (as opposed to the wide heavily horse trodden trails out of Kings Canyon). The trail is a long meandering traverse that turns a small ridge and climbs sharply to the first Horseshoe Lake. Dave had stayed behind to deal with blisters, the bane of this trip, so I dropped my pack to search for a camp. The first lake is rocky with scant camping unless you go into the forest above the lake, far from water. The next eastern very scenic lake has much more accessible camping with much better views. After Dave showed up, we set up camp in a well established camp and went about our business and waited for Kalon to show up.
