A Backpack to the Remote Lyell Fork of the Merced River

Lyell Fork Trip

From the end of the meadow, looking back towards the granite slopes leading up to Hutchings Creek canyon.

The Far Side of the Meadow

A Trail and Cross-Country Route to the Lyell Fork, July 2007

Dave took a stop to change clothes and apply some Deet, and maybe take a pill. He was still not feeling well and not getting any better. I took care of my own needs and thereafter we headed up canyon.

Lyell Fork Trip

Looking south towards the walls of the Lyell Fork canyon.

Once again we were in forest, a little more complex now, but still not a problem to navigate. There were more small hills that sort of funneled our way through the easy terrain, sometime near the stream. Before long we were back in rocky slabby terrain and climbing upward.

Lyell Fork Trip

Time for some deet next to the Lyell Fork  where it enters the meadow.
