A Backpack Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets
Looking back towards Anona Lake from just below "Gertrude Lakes Pass".
"Gertrude Lakes Pass"
A Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets, August/September 2006The slope below the pass is open and rocky with more and more grass showing up the higher we went. There was a tree or two to go around higher up, but all in all, there was no doubt as to where to go. The nice thing was the ever increasing great views as we climbed higher, with Anona Lake to one side and the Silver Divide in the distance to the south. Looking towards the pass, the peaks of Volcanic Ridge began to rear up over the horizon. The San Joaquin River trench was pretty easy to pick out. Great hiking in perfect conditions.
Just a few more steps...I think we are going to make it... to the top of "Gertrude Lakes Pass". OK, where is the register?? The way is pretty obvious.
