A Backpack Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets
Near a grassy spot by Noname Lake, we dropped our packs and headed up the trail to Holcomb LakeOnce near the outlet overlooking the lake, it is an easy matter of going down ramps to the trail below.
Noname Lake!!!
A Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets, August/September 2006OK, there is no big deal about Noname Lake. It is just a nice pleasant small lake and a good spot to rest and have a snack. There is a bit of lawn and shade near the trail about half way around the lake that is a good place to sit and use as a starting point for the hike up the ridge. More on that later.
Once we reached the overlook of the lake and descended to the shore, we met the main trail and followed that around the lake close to the shoreline. Unlike the map, the trail actually sticks close to the lake 1/3 of the way around. I would say that Noname Lake is more pleasant, sheltered and friendly than Holcomb, but more time spent exploring may prove otherwise. I found no obvious camps around this lake, but some may be there if you look for them. Being a shallow small lake, it may be ideal for swimming and fairly warm.Looking over Noname Lake, we can see the cliffs of the basin that Holcomb Lake sits in.
After we have a look at Holcomb Lake, the next leg of the cross-country trip goes up over the ridge on the right: still a pretty easy route.
