A Backpack Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets
Enduring a blustery day while looking towards the outlet and "Two Teats". The Agnew Meadow trailhead trail is on the other side of the lake.
Turning Shadow Lake
A Cross-Country Traverse of the Minarets, August/September 2006After taking the right fork at the trail junction and following the JMT, turning the lake is as a pleasant matter as is any of the trails around the lake, with great views across the lake. Soon enough the trail begins to climb.
After a bit, the trail climbs in earnest, all part of a gain of over 700 feet of elevation. The tight switchbacks of the JMT eases the climb a bit, but it is a pretty solid rate of climb for less than 1/2 mile. The last bit goes right up the hill to make sure you are short of breath at the top.The last stretch of 735 feet of climbing after about 14 switchbacks. See the horse hoof prints in the dirt?
