The Ottoway Lakes Loop

Ottoway Lakes Loop Trip

The Merced Peak Fork creek could not muster up a very serious flow this late season. Still, a charming stretch of creek

Across the Creek

The Ottoway Lakes Loop, September 2004

I was not in shade for long as the trail broke out into the open beyond the bridge and headed down-canyon in more open granite prairie. Soon the Triple Peak fork joined the Merced Peak Fork to make a respectable flow of water sliding over clean granite among islands of trees. There were many interesting pools, cascades, waterfalls and watersides that would be a lot of fun to explore for someone who had the time, but I had to settle for taking a picture or two. Swimming and similar activities would be a lot of fun there during mid-season.

Looking back the way I came way up there, across the Merced Peak Fork creek. Somehow Solomons (the pioneer of the John Muir Trail) got up there into the canyon of the Triple Fork with pack animals.
