A Short Trip in the Pioneer Basin Area
At this point we are heading down the switchbacks to the canyon floor. Nice views up-canyon like this one graced our stroll.
Heading Down To Go Up-Canyon
A Pioneer Basin Trip from Edison Lake, June 2003
After our little break, we loaded up and hit the trail in our very park-like area. The trail switched back and forth in a very moderate way then finally headed up canyon while gently lowering us to the canyon floor. Slowly the more open granite and tree studded terrain gave way to more conventional forest.
This was the next interesting cut in the south wall of the canyon, right after the cut up to the volcano-like feature. A waterfall slid down the clean granite face below the small hanging valley.
Breaks in the trees allowed excellent views of the towering walls above us. A nice waterfall decorated the small hanging granite valley to our south, which had me plotting ways to get up there. Well, there was a river in the way, so....
The trail continued to be a good one despite a patch or two of sand to slog through.
