A Solo Hike Along the Silver Divide
Minnow Creek Canyon. That high peak must be Bloody Mountain. Note the glacier scoured wall on the right and the "U" shape of the canyon. Excellent!
Minnow Creek Canyon
Silver Divide Trip from Edison Lake Trailhead, August-September 2001
Of some interest to me was that the current summit area was spit with several huge fissures in jointed granite. In order to get to some of the summit slabs, I had to jump these fissures which were a few feet across and perhaps 100 feet deep in places. Kinda exciting. You could look down these fissures right down to the lake below, and some seemed wide enough to climb down. You can try it: bring a rope.
One of the wider jointed fissures that look down on Olive Lake.
After I had my fill of lunch and views, I headed right down to my camp to the ENE over easy terrain. It had been getting increasingly cloudy, and by the time I reached camp, it had begun to rain. Geez, it never fails: always around the first of September, there always seems to be a rain coming in that can last for a day or several days. Oh well, I collected my goods and got them under shelter, headed for my bivy-tent, got comfortable and read my book. I actually enjoyed the rain, and by dinnertime it had stopped long enough to make my evening meal. The rain continued on through the evening, so the whole last half of the day was very relaxing. It was a good night to sleep.
