Brewer Basin in Kings Canyon
Near the crux of the climb I could look to the East down towards East Lake and the eastern ridge route below. The Bubbs Creek drainage can easily be seen to the left.
Climb to the Crux
We got tired of waiting and began looking at the talus heap before us that was Mt. Brewer. It looked like a real ugly climb and we considered briefly going no further. Instead, Dave went ahead with me following up the easy slope until we hit solid talus. Here we decided to go on, but leave our packs and one of my poles (I should of left both). Up to this point my poles were very useful.
At first it was easy, but the mountain got rapidly steeper. Had I known, I would of headed right near the ridge crest and followed that easier route, but where we climbed it was a massive giant staircase with occasional evidence of human passage. The route was a mountaineers Class 2 despite the often use of hands and climbing, and fairly interesting in places.
