A Walk on the Tablelands
Here Moose Lake looks like a pool of water on the edge of a precipice framed by the Great Western Divide. Timber Gap can be seen on the right, and Sawtooth Peak is just right of center.
Mounting the Ridge
The night before saw the arrival of two backpackers from the direction of Pear Lake, who enjoyed the islands evening and morning by fishing. We had looked over the possible routes out the day before while fending off huge flocks of mosquitoes, so we both had ideas of how to get out of the Moose Lake basin and on to the ridge for our route to the lip of the Tablelands. I thought the best way was up a grassy joint to the top of the ridge, and Dave thought following the ridge was better, and as it turned out they both worked about the same. There was another route about mid-ridge that may also of done the trick. Once on the ridge the route was easy and obvious.
