A Walk on the Tablelands
Hikers sometimes bivy here, or even set down a free-standing tent for exposed camping. Certainly, this spot on the brink of the Tablelands affords stellar views and an unobstructed night sky.
A Tarn on the Brink of the World
Another gentle wide grassy depression led upward into the thin air above 11000 feet, which we followed, passing numerous tarns and small snow-melt brooks. We crested the Kings-Kaweah Divide at 11077 feet at two small tarns just inside Kings Canyon Nation Park, where we dropped our packs and had our morning snacks and water. Also of note we were in the Sphinx Lakes 7.5 quad, where we had spent considerable time the previous summer.
